Why are we having a July 4 General Election?

He could have waited until the end of the year, but instead Rishi Sunak has decided to go for the first July election since 1945.

Sunak goes into the campaign 20-points behind Labour in the polls, and with around 70 of his own MPs choosing to quit Parliament rather than stand again.

So why is he doing it?
